Centre for abandoned children and destitute women launched

Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM), with the financial support from KNH-Germany, launched the centre at South Paikpara, Mirpur, in the capital. Abandoned children aged 0-5 and destitute women having unwanted pregnancy will be rehabilitated at free of cost at the centre. Presided over by the DAM President Kazi Rafiqul Alam, the launching ceremony was attended by the Secretary of Ministry of women and Children Affairs Tarik-Ul-Islam as chief guest. Country Coordinator of KNH-Germany Maruf Momtaj Rumi and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Moazzem Hossain also spoke on the occasion. Shahnewaz Khan, Vice-President of Ahsania Mission Children City made the introductory speech. Appreciating DAM’s Social role the Women and Child Affairs Secretary assured all possible support to the centre and asked all concerned to come forward to serve humanity. The function was told that the abandoned children and the helpless women having unwanted pregnancy would be provided with safe residential facility, food, clothing, medical, recreation, education for children, safety, protection and vocational training and other necessary support at the centre. Addressing on the occasion, speakers called upon all to work for improving the condition of abandoned children and destitute women. Abandoned children were defined as those children aged between 0-5 years who do not have shelter and secured place to live in and is devoid of parental care and denied of human rights. The project will also serve pregnant women who are victims of rape and having no shelter to give birth to their child and have no means to survive and ensure essential support during and after childbirth.
