AUSTIN, Texas — Chevron Corp. recently announced an $800,000 gift to The University of Texas at Austin through its University Partnership Program, mainly to support programs in the McCombs School of Business, Cockrell School of Engineering and Jackson School of Geosciences, the primary areas where Chevron recruits employees.
Including this donation, Chevron and its subsidiaries have invested over $53 million in UT Austin with emphasis on support for scholarships, student organizations, minority organizations and departmental priorities.
Bill Hunter, Chevron’s university affairs manager, presented the check at an event at the company’s Houston headquarters attended by more than 200 UT Austin alumni who are Chevron employees.
“Chevron has been our partner for the long term, and we are grateful for their generous, ongoing support of our students, especially in the STEM fields,” said Bill Powers, president of UT Austin. “Their support helps us remain one of the world’s leading universities for energy research and education.”
“Chevron is proud to continue our longstanding partnership with UT Austin,” said Paul Siegele, president of Chevron’s Energy Technology Company. “The university is a key source of top talent for our company, and Longhorn grads serve in numerous leadership positions throughout Chevron to help us meet global energy needs.”
The largest portion of Chevron’s gift will help purchase teaching lab equipment for the new Digital Petrophysics Lab in the Cockrell School of Engineering. This new facility will serve undergraduate and graduate petroleum engineering students.
This recent gift will continue funding for the LeaderShape Institute, a weeklong leadership development program that helps young people develop a commitment to leading with integrity. Chevron has been sole sponsor of one LeaderShape session each year for the past two years. The Jackson School of Geosciences’ GeoFORCE program, which prepares Texas high school students to become part of the geosciences workforce, will also benefit from the gift.
