Chi Mei Optoelectronics Shares Its Green Achievements, Hosting “the 2009 Energy Conservation Award Exchange Forum”

(May 19, 2009; Tainan, Taiwan) Chi Mei Optoelectronics (Fab 5) has been honored with the Electronics Component Manufacturer Energy Conservation Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2008 MOEA Bureau of Energy's Excellence in Energy Conservation Awards ceremony. With the support of the MOEA and ITRI, Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) today hosts the 2009 Energy Conservation Award Exchange Forum, which gathers over 100 participants in the electronics and traditional industries. In the special occasion CMO shares its experiences in energy conservation, demonstrating its positive social responsibility efforts and displaying its dedication to and progress toward protecting the environment.CMO's Fab 5, 2008 award winner, saves over 44 million kWh per year, a reduction of 14% from the fab's original total power usage. This is the equivalent of 34 thousand tons of CO2, or the amount absorbed by 115 parks the size of Da An Forest Park in Taipei, and also represents a financial savings of NT$76.60 million. The energy conservation achievements of CMO Fab 5 are as follows:
In line with the company's corporate social responsibility principles, last year CMO created the comprehensive green initiative “To Earth, With L.O.V.E”, which reflects the company's concern with sustainability and environmental protection, and has created a variety of energy conservation measures. In order to ensure that these measures are implemented quickly and effectively, CMO created its Energy Conservation Office to draw up and carry out energy conservation plans. This office will also create comprehensive energy conservation analysis indices and appraisals, organize and implement innovative energy conservation plans, manage energy conservation training and educational programs, and help raise employee awareness. In its efforts to promote energy conservation, CMO has created three focal points:(1) Create appropriate energy conservation standards: this involves surveying actual energy needs of all users, finding the best targets for energy conservation, and creating standard, company-wide measures, e.g. setting different lighting illumination levels for different workspaces, and adjusting air conditioning temperature;(2) Creating highly energy efficient systems: this primarily involves using energy conserving equipment, high efficiency configurations, and implementing real time monitoring of energy use, including high efficiency coolers, and industry leading real time coolant monitoring;(3) Recycling: This includes heat reclamation coolers to capture and reuse of heat given off by air conditioners, photo resist stripper wastewater reclamation system, and rainwater collection systems. The earth’s resources are limited, and when it comes to energy conservation, actions speak louder than words. CMO continues to expand its “To Earth, With L.O.V.E.” program and promote sustainable development, in order to achieve its goal of Green Living, Green Operations, and Green Environment so that society can thrive and grow in harmony with nature. The Outstanding Achievement Award awarded to CMO Fab 5 is the best proof that our efforts are paying off. |
