It was an early Christmas in Senzani community when 300 children received assorted gifts courtesy of World Vision US sponsors. The children and their parents reacted with expressions of gratitude and excitement for the gifts thanking the sponsors for their generosity.
“I am happy to take home new exercise books which I will use in the coming term and the other items from my friends in America and it shows that they love me and all the other children in Senzani”, said Emily aged 12 after receiving her gifts.
“My mother won’t be troubled with looking for money to buy me exercise books and pens as I start the new term and the sugar means we will be able to have good porridge for some days, it is a very good day for me” she added.
Senzani Area Development Organisation (SECODO), a local Community based organization tipped to take over from World Vision when the program phases out in Senzani in the near future, thanked World Vision and all sponsors for the continued support children in the community continue to receive.
“Our Sponsors are very special. They have brought great change to the life of many children in our community and for that we are very thankful,” said Jeffrey Ching’ani, SECODO chairperson, while adding that the bounce back celebrations, which have been held annually since the program was incepted over a decade ago, have cemented relations between children and their sponsors.
Emily is one of 4794 registered children in Senzani Area ADP. Him, along with other registered children received exercise books, pens, and a packet of sugar, a bottle of Vaseline and two tablets of soap.
At the end, all children were treated to soft drinks and performed several dances and plays.
Distributing the items, Acting Child Wellbeing Coordinator for Senzani their office had decided to do this on behalf of the children’s sponsors as a sign of their commitment in the general welfare and wellbeing of all the children of Senzani community.
