18 year old American soprano releases first recordings to launch career in classical crossover genre

Christina-Marie-Burke.gifMemphis, TN November 15, 2010 – Blues City Music recording artist, Christina Marie Burke releases her classical crossover debut. The self-titled CD is a nine song compilation of religious, classical and pop songs demonstrating her diverse vocal range and repertoire. Recorded at Leeway Studios in Memphis, the CD is now available online at iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, Amazon, AllMusic, IndieRhythm, CD Baby and is currently looking to establish international distribution.

An American soprano, Burke began voice lessons at the early age of six and continues her studies at the prestigious Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Recorded at the age of 16, the debut CD showcases her depth of study and highlights her influences from the likes of Sarah Brightman, Katherine Jenkins, Camilla Kerslake, Christina Aguilera and her personal favorite, Celine Dion. In addition to her class load at Belmont, Burke continues to receive private instruction from Dr. Pamela Gaston DMA, Associate Professor of Voice at the University of Memphis’ Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. “Christina is a vibrant, involved young woman with a lovely top register in her voice,” cites Dr. Gaston whose other students have gone on to appear with the Chicago Lyric Opera, Nashville Opera and New Orleans Opera.

Songs performed on the new release include The Lord’s Prayer, Ave Maria, Panis Angelicus, My Heart Will Go On and Con te Partio (Time to Say Goodbye). Burke’s voice is accompanied on the tracks by piano, strings, brass and woodwinds. Demonstrating her dedicated studies of the selected pieces, Burke sings in Italian, Latin, and English.

Classical crossover, as a genre is still new in terms of music history. The phrase and genre was labeled as such by Sony Records in support of performer Sarah Brightman and more recently made popular by the likes of artists such as Andrea Bocelli. The term refers to the ability of the artist to perform successfully across multiple platforms of musical styles including classical, folk, pop and musical theatre arrangements – a group that Burke welcomes the inclusion in and strives to further her development in the future.
