CICS to Help Aircraft Operators Fly Through EU ETS Regulations
CO2 emissions expert CICS launches regional workshops on EU ETS for aviation industry to prepare airline operators for verification
Stoke-on-Trent (UK), 24 February 2010 – The new EU ETS regulations for aviation came into force in January 2010, but many aircraft operators are still unsure about how this will affect their businesses. Aviation CO2 emissions specialist CICS has announced the launch of a number of regional workshops, designed to guide operators through the whole process and help them prepare for verification. The workshops will be held in Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin in July 2010.
For aviation, the challenge of joining the EU ETS can seem complex and overwhelming. From January 1st 2010 until December 31st 2010 aircraft companies will have to monitor their emissions; these will then need to be independently verified prior to submission by 31st March 2011. In addition, if they wish to apply for free carbon allowances under the scheme, operators will be required to submit verified tonne kilometre data.
Drawing on their experience providing emissions reporting support for companies such as Virgin Atlantic, CICS will walk attendees through the process from the very basics of verification through to interaction with the registry and the critical final steps. The workshops will also cover practical advice on early steps that can be taken in advance to streamline the verification process at the end of 2010.
“This workshop series follows on from a previous series held by CICS during Phase I of the EU ETS,” commented Shaun Bainbridge, Director and lead verifier at CICS. “We are very pleased to be able to offer this kind of educational support to EU ETS participants – our workshops tend to be extremely popular and heavily oversubscribed.”
