Omar Samad, Afghanistan’s former ambassador to Canada and France, will discuss the prospects of economic, political and security progress in Afghanistan, at the next Signature Lecture at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI).
“Afghanistan 2014: In Transition or Stalemate?” will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18.
In his address, Ambassador Samad, now a Senior Central Asia Fellow at the New America Foundation, will also discuss Canada’s role as it relates to Afghanistan in the past, current and future, and what needs to be done in order to assure some level of mission success in Afghanistan.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Ambassador Omar Samad is Senior Central Asia Fellow at the New America Foundation, and the founder and president of Silkroad Consulting L.L.C., based in Virginia. He served as the Ambassador of Afghanistan to France (2009-2011) and to Canada (2004-2009) and spokesperson for the Afghan Foreign Ministry (2002-2004). Samad received a master's degree in international relations from The Fletcher School. His works have been published in the US, Canada, Europe and Afghanistan. He is an advocate for freedom and democracy in Afghanistan and is involved in a number of organizations and initiatives that focus on the advancement of human rights and education.
