City of Augusta, Maine, celebrates Tait P25 digital system
Date : February 18, 2011
The City of Augusta, ME, Police Department and Tait Radio Communications, a global leader in providing radio solutions, have celebrated the successful installation of a radio communications system for public-safety users.
Representatives from Augusta Police, Augusta Fire, local dignitaries, Active Communications Inc and Tait Radio Communications attended the event to mark the official handover of the P25 digital radio system, designed by Tait to increase the effectiveness of communications within and between the city's public-safety agencies.
In line with the project's goals, the new TaitNet P25 digital simulcast network has improved radio coverage from 55 percent to more than 90 percent on both portable and mobile radios for the 59 square miles of challenging topography along the Kennebec River and downtown area.Voice clarity and emergency backup communications were also significantly enhanced.
"The system is able to deliver to the needs of police, by having dedicated channels which can be encrypted for communicating sensitive information, and of fire, which need a system that provides good in-building communications," says Raphael St. Pierre, Assistant City Manager for the City of Augusta.
"The City of Augusta system is a showcase for the northeast and a true representation of how a city, radio manufacturer and local partner can work together to design and deliver the best solution for a community," says Steve Cragg, President, Tait Radio Communications - Americas. "It's important to celebrate the efforts of everyone involved and the positive results the completion of this project will have on the community."
