CM of Assam Tarun Gogoi awards Bravehearts

Honourable CM of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi presided over the 5th Annual Braveheart awards at the Asian Heart Institute; conceived by the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at AHI, BKC.


Mumbai, Maharshtra, India., February 7, 2012 - (PressReleasePoint) - The Braveheart Awards recognize cardiac patients who have shown exemplary resilience in overcoming their medical issues and leading a normal life; participating in marathons, leading a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating habits.

The event underlined 'normal life post cardiac surgery' and showcased the sheer determination and mental strength of the 300 odd people who had gathered there. The awards were given in 9 categories Most regular person at the rehab, young at heart, joggers award, reversal of heart disease, warrior, patient with positive attitude, family award for more than one person from a family undergoing rehab, superwoman and superman.

The doctors at Asian Heart, including the Medical Director, Dr.Vijay DSilva, proudly gave away the awards to their patients, who in turn thanked them for giving them a second lease of life. The youngest awardee was a 38 year old man and the oldest was Shri. Gogoi himself at 76 years. Shri. Gogoi was also given an award for being the one person who fit into all 9 categories simultaneously. Dr. Panda gave him the award. Dr.Panda pronounced the 85 year old CM 'hale and hearty' and applauded the healthy diet and lifestyle followed by the Honourable Chief Minister.

Shri Gogoi, known to be a man of few words was asked to speak about his experience with Asian Heart. Shri Gogoi said, "thank you for having me here. I want to thank the doctors who, besides being great doctors are even better human beings. I have to thank them for giving me a new lease of life. They have made us all bravehearts, brave people who are now ready and willing to face the world. "
The city may recall that on 4th August 2011, Shri Tarun Gogoi, Honourable CM of Assam had undergone two bypass grafts, change of the aortic valve and enlargement of the artery at India's mecca of cardiac surgery, The Asian Heart Institute.He of course went back to being a hale and hearty administrator of his state and was happy to find an opportunity to vist Mumbai and meet the man who saved his life; Dr.Ramakanta Panda, arguably, the worlds best cardiac surgeon.
