The BC Energy Step Code Council, of which Engineers and Geoscientists BC is a contributor, received a special Climate & Energy Action Award in the Collaboration category for the two-year, multi-stakeholder consultative process to develop the BC Energy Step Code.

The award was presented by the Honourable George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Union of BC Municipalities convention in Vancouver, BC.

The association is proud to partner in this effort and work alongside government and industry stakeholders to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, and safeguard our environment. The new targets outlined in the Code provide voluntary province-wide standards and technical guidance to engineers and geoscientists, allowing them to pursue the most innovative solutions to advance energy efficiency and climate change leadership.

The BC Energy Step Code is a voluntary provincial standard enacted in April 2017 that provides an incremental and consistent approach to achieving more energy-efficient buildings that go beyond the requirements of the base BC Building Code. It does so by establishing a series of measurable, performance-based energy-efficiency requirements for construction that builders can choose to build to, and communities may voluntarily choose to adopt in bylaws and policies.

More information on the BC Energy Step Code is available online through the BC Government website.
