Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma has condemned the latest terrorist attacks that have claimed many lives in Kenya. In a statement issued on his behalf by Spokesperson Richard Uku today, the Secretary-General said:

“The Commonwealth roundly condemns these reprehensible terrorist attacks.

“The Commonwealth stands in solidarity with the government and people of Kenya, a member country that continues to play an active role which is widely appreciated in promoting stability as the foundation for the spread of democracy, development and prosperity in the region.

“The Commonwealth recognises the importance of mutual respect, moderation and religious freedom. And the Commonwealth also recognises that the only effective and durable resolution of differences will come from peaceful means including dialogue.
