member Northland Community Band will be joining the Red Lake Falls school bands at their fall concert on October 19, at 7:00 P.M. in the gym at Lafayette High School.

The 37-The Community Band’s mission is to bring their music to the Northwest region. The band has performed over the past few years in several communities including Hallock, Karlstad, Clearbrook and Fosston. The Northland Community Band plans on adding two new communities each year.

In addition to Northland Band, the Junior High Band, Everyday Band, Senior High Band, and Drum line from Red Lake Falls will also be performing. The program is anticipated to last about an hour and a half.

For the Northland Community Band portion four pieces will be performed. Sousa Scramble based on the music of John Philip Sousa, a prolific composer of great concert marches. Sousa Scramble uses bits and pieces of some of Sousa’s best loved works: Washington Post March, The Thunderer, Semper Fidelis, The Liberty Bell, El Capitan, The Black Horse Troop and Stars and Striped Forever. The band will also play Folk Dances by the 20th century Russian composer Shostakovich. This piece has great energy and drive and is based on folk tunes. In addition there is a lighthearted and playful piece called Barndance that is full of vigor. To round out their part of the program the band will also play a couple of brief fun tunes: Bill Bailey and Leader Man Rag.
