OAK BROOK, IL – July 9, 2014 – Configure One™ (www.configureone.com), a leading provider of web-based product configurator and CPQ (configure, price, quote) software, today announced that Bell Lumber and Pole Company—a leading supplier of treated wooden poles to North American utility markets—selected Configure One’s Concept Enterprise Product Configurator® after a comprehensive evaluation.

Bell Lumber & Pole Company is a 105-year-old privately held company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bell’s primary business is providing and servicing the utility market with treated wooden utility poles. The Bell family also owns Alamco, LLC, a manufacturer of environmentally friendly commercial Glulam beams. Alamco supplies arches and beams for use in bridges, shelters and a variety of building types as well as high quality laminated utility poles. Due to the high degree of complexity in Alamco’s products, the quoting process is time-consuming, involving engineering, costing, and a lot of calculations. To produce a quote requires considerable experience and product knowledge. “The entire quoting process is manual and based on spreadsheets,” said Michael Mooney, IT Consultant. “It was clear that product configurator and quotation software could help Alamco’s CPQ process, and improve quote lead time and accuracy and increase quote throughput.”

Tom Bell, CEO of Bell Lumber and Pole Company states: “We are passionate about deploying technology at the right time and right place in our business to improve efficiency of our front line sales staff and support systems. Configure One’s Concept product configurator is an excellent example of where technology has a significant payback and frees up decision-makers and our sales staff to execute with excellence.”

Although Alamco is going to be the first user of the new software, the product had to be flexible to accommodate the requirements of the different Bell Lumber and Pole divisions. After a comprehensive evaluation, Alamco selected Configure One’s Concept Enterprise Product Configurator®. “We were looking for a company with a good reputation,” said Mooney. “We were impressed by the quality of the software, and the people we met from Configure One. They were very professional and answered all of our questions in a timely fashion. This was backed up by quality references that gave us the confidence that we’d made the right choice. There was a definite indication by existing customers that Configure One is a company that does what it says it will do.”

Initially, Concept’s use will be limited to inside sales staff within Alamco, but future plans include expanding its use to other Bell entities with configurable products. “Concept will provide Alamco with accurate costing and a professional looking quote document, in addition to required Bills of Materials. In the future, we expect to use Concept’s Real-Time 2D module to generate sales drawings, said Mooney.”

According to Mooney, Alamco will receive immediate benefits once Concept is fully implemented. “Currently, quoting is a bottleneck. There is a lot of product knowledge required to produce a quote. We want to capture that knowledge via the configuration rules in Concept. This will increase the number of people that can create an accurate quote. Our sales staff would rather be out interacting with customers, instead of grinding through paperwork all day. The integration between Concept and our CRM and ERP systems will further streamline the CPQ process, and help eliminate mistakes resulting from manually data entry.”

“More and more companies, such as Bell Lumber and Pole, are recognizing the business benefits from automating the CPQ process,” said Justin Rogers, a Senior Account Executive with Configure One. “We are confident that Concept will help Bell improve its quote-to-order lead time and quote accuracy, as well as freeing up its sales staff to concentrate on selling activities rather than mundane paperwork.”
