Contemporary and Mainstream Ensembles to Perform April 13

                        HOLLAND - The Contemporary and Mainstream Ensembles at HopeCollege will perform on Wednesday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The Contemporary Ensemble will perform "Walkin," by R. Carpenter; "All Blues," arranged by sophomore Michael Reynolds of Tampa, Fla.; "Gingerbread Boy," by Jimmy Heath; and "Jean Pierre," by Miles Davis. The ensemble's performance is in memoriam of Miles Davis (1926-1991). The Contemporary Ensemble consists of freshman Jared DeMeester of Grand Rapids, bass; senior Caleb Murray of Half Moon BayCalif., tenor; sophomore Michael Reynolds of Tampa, Fla., piano; and sophomore David Webster of Troy, drums.  The ensemble is coached by Dr. Brian Coyle, professor of music and chairperson of the department.

The Mainstream Ensemble's performance is titled "Live from Japan; A Retrospective," and will include "S&W Model 2 of the Far East," by Suga Dairo; "Aika," by Tetsuro Kawashima; "D.E.L.F." by Yuki Arimasa; and "Kokiriko," by Takeuchi Nao. The Mainstream Ensemble consists of senior Larry Figueroa of Holland, piano; junior Zach Pedigo of Chippewa Falls, Wis., bass; senior Nate Roberts of West Milton, Pa., guitar; and sophomore Wayne Titus of Canto, drums.  The ensemble is coached by Dr. Robert Hodson, associate professor of music.

The April 13 concert is among the highlights of the college's April 11-15 celebration of national Undergraduate Research Week, during which Hope is featuring the importance of student research and creative work college-wide.  Additional information about the week, including the complete schedule, is available online atwww.hope.edu/resources/naturweek/Home.htm
