Content Beamer Mobile Printing Application Now Available For BlackBerry
Monday, July 25, 2005
Content Beamer, a wireless print solution for BlackBerry, is ready and waiting with many more features than previously announced.
The print solution Content Beamer for BlackBerry® is now ready for order. The software from ThinPrint, the experts for mobile printing, is available worldwide and the released version has an even broader range of functions than what was promised in April. Content Beamer for BlackBerry offers users of Bluetooth®-capable BlackBerry devices, developed by Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM), a way to print e-mails and attachments in original format on Bluetooth®-printers. In addition, BlackBerry customers using Content Beamer can also print e-mails and attachments on network printers, as well as directly print unformatted mail texts using HP compatible and Bluetooth-enabled printers.

All print functions can be selected uniformly and intuitively with the “print” command, which is integrated directly into the BlackBerry menu.
Bluetooth printing: With Content Beamer, users equipped with a Bluetooth-capable BlackBerry device can print e-mails and e-mail attachments in original format on to any Bluetooth-enabled printer via the Bluetooth interface. Utilizing BlackBerry Enterpriser Server™, the Content Beamer server component sends a greatly compressed print stream to the BlackBerry device. It is not necessary to download the attachment.
Direct printing: For users that need to print information fast when on the go, Content Beamer for BlackBerry offers a direct printing capability. If the layout doesn’t matter and the content is already downloaded completely onto the BlackBerry device, as with e-mail texts, these can be printed directly, via Bluetooth, to any Bluetooth-enabled HP compatible printer. Quick printing with this function will soon be possible completely offline.
Network printing: BlackBerry is also a treasured tool at the office while away from the desk. ThinPrint has accommodated this, as well, and has created a simple way of printing in this scenario via BlackBerry, utilizing network printers. Users can print to network printers at headquarters via BlackBerry, as well as branch office printers, as long as the selected network printer is installed on the Content Beamer Server.
“We did not anticipate the incredible response to our initial announcement in April,” reports ThinPrint Managing Director Carsten Mickeleit. “By adding network and direct print functions, we want to ensure that Content Beamer truly represents all aspects of printing and meets the needs of BlackBerry users with one easy-to-find `print´ option in the BlackBerry menu.”
For security, the ThinPrint solution uses the advanced security features of BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Print jobs are created from the server component of the Content Beamer for BlackBerry and sent via BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the mobile device. Both servers are behind a firewall. For security reasons, the only accepted Bluetooth printers are those to which the BlackBerry user has previously explicitly established a connection. Content Beamer for BlackBerry supports all conventional print languages, like PCL, PostScript, etc. Bluetooth communication is sent either via the built-in Bluetooth interface or a small Bluetooth adapter.
With offices in the USA, Germany, and Australia, as well an active partner network in 48 countries, ThinPrint can offer the best possible service worldwide. Content Beamer is available for order at a price of 1,830 euros for one server incl. 5 users.
