Cortado expands the range of solutions offered by the Cloud Printing Alliance to bring unlimited printing to secure corporate laptops

Cortado, the leading innovator of the business class of cloud desktop services, announces today Cortado Instant Printer – a new software product that increases the security of laptops by making printer driver installation on the devices unnecessary. With Cortado Instant Printer, companies can completely prevent software and drivers from being installed by locking the laptop without requiring users to sacrifice printing to network or locally installed printers.

Local installation of software (i.e. new printer drivers) by end users is an increasing security issue, which not only threatens to expose any sensitive personal information the user might have on their computer, but also threatens exposing sensitive corporate information. According to a Cisco commissioned international study by the U.S. market research institute, InsightExpress, half of all data loss in enterprises is related to installing unauthorized software on computers or visiting unwanted websites. One security measure would be to make laptops so secure that it is impossible for users to install any software or drivers on the device. When this happens, the user then becomes limited and can only use printers pre-installed by their IT department.

Cortado Instant Printer is the solution to this problem. It allows organizations to operate centrally managed desktops and laptops entirely without printer drivers while still enabling printing to network or local printers. Laptops with Cortado Instant Printer can also print on-demand to printers in the same Wi-Fi network, such as in a home office, eliminating unwanted computer constraints while maintaining security.

The solution is easily enabled when the user selects “Cortado Instant Printer” as a printer. The software searches the network for available printers and suggests suitable drivers for the user. After choosing the printer and driver, the print job is sent encrypted to the Cortado server, where it is rendered and sent back to the user’s workstation.
