Cortado Launches First Real Cloud Desktop for the Post-PC Era
November 07, 2011 --
HTML5 version for Cortado Corporate Server answers the BYO trend, enabling organizations to deliver true desktop functionality on any device.

Cortado, the leading innovator of the business class of cloud desktop services, today announces the HTML5 version of its Cortado Corporate Server product line to enable all necessary desktop business functions on any web-enabled device, making it the first true cloud desktop for the post-PC era.
The post-PC era is led by business user demand to work in a BYOC/D culture with a wide range of different devices for both their personal and professional needs. For the business world, this blurs the lines of the corporate IT environment, which struggles in managing how these devices can access and store content in a way that is secure, while optimizing the user experience.
“The era of the PC is giving way to the era of choice: choice in architecture, choice in work styles and choice in device types. This new era requires new thinking with respect to the processes, planning, usage models and even device ownership.” From Report: “Key Issues for Client Computing, 2011” - Published: 14 March 2011 ID:G00211375 - Analyst(s): Stephen Kleynhans.
With HTML5 for Cortado Corporate Server, enterprises can now optimize functionality between their centralized IT resources and virtually any device, ensuring the hybrid cloud is securely accessed by business users, as well as easily integrated into corporate IT environments regardless of device and OS platforms. Cortado Corporate Server is best known for replicating desktop functionality on any device, such as iPads, Androids or BlackBerry smartphones. With HTML5, Cortado completes its Cloud Desktop Services vision as it can now be accessed across PCs and Macs, as well as other web-enabled devices.
“Cortado’s cloud desktop services with HTML5 is the only solution that concentrates on providing the business class of desktop services in a flexible and secure cloud environment,” says Carsten Mickeleit, CEO of Cortado. “It offers a radical new approach to remote access that is faster and less consuming than other solutions because it uses the local intelligence and software licenses of the devices. Companies of all sizes need an easy-to-use, powerful, secure, manageable and cost effective solution to enable business use of personal devices and Cortado is the answer.”
Control for the Enterprise and the Business User:
Unlike other options available, Cortado’s cloud desktop services allow companies to avoid the limited ‘secure container’ approach, where businesses are forced to limit access rights to data and applications, imposing on the flexibility of how the device is used by individual employees. This limiting approach forces business users to access their files using cloud services or other file transport options which cannot be controlled by IT departments. With Cortado, these workarounds are unnecessary, putting control and management of devices back into the hands of IT administrators. By centrally controlling all data via Cortado’s cloud desktop, the security issue of device management is resolved.
Cortado’s HTML5 version offers faster processes, less demand on data center resources by using the local resources of the used devices and delivers a centralized, private cloud IT infrastructure with print services, databases, file and fax server access. With these improved functionalities, users are left feeling in control, and companies are left feeling that they are managing corporate devices. Cortado's technology is substantially more cost effective than traditional virtual desktop infrastructure offering a superior user experience on any device, online and offline, reducing the risk of migration of corporate data to uncontrolled cloud services.
Enterprise-Grade Security
Behind the open concept is a stringent three-part security approach. First, users can make sure that local encryption options on the device are maximized. Second, during transmission, HTML5 uses an SSL encrypted tunnel from the browser to the corporate server. Lastly, IT departments can implement password requirements to access corporate environments.
HTML5 will be available by the end of 2011 as a corporate solution, as a free version for single users (www.cortado.com/workplace) as well as a license for cloud storage providers. Cortado will showcase its cloud desktop services, with the new HTML5 version for Cortado Corporate Server, at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo in Barcelona from 7-10 November.
