Houston, TX - April 2009 (PressReleasePoint) Selecting hair care products may be a little confusing given the sheer number of products on the shelf. With so many product options all vying for your hard earned dollars, having a little inside information will be helpful in choosing the best products for your hair type. Every head of hair is unique, and although your friends, family, favorite celebrities or one of a million glossy advertisements may sing a products praises… that doesn’t mean that every high profile product is the right fit for your hair.

So how do you wade through the endless barrage of life changing products? The first step begins by understanding your hair type. Whatever type of hair adorns your head, fine, coarse, straight, curly, wiry, dry, oily, or a combination of all of the above…it’s important to choose an appropriate pH-balanced shampoo and conditioner that fits. Here are some basic guidelines to help you define great product matches for your hair type.

Coarse Hair. Choose shampoos with olive oil and or wheat germ. Coarse hair gets fuzzy and wiry after cleansing, so look for serums or leave in conditioners to seal and smooth.

Curly Hair. Choose Shampoos that maximize curls. Curly hair tends to be frizzy, so choose a leave in conditioner, shine enhancers or conditioning sprays.

Black Hair. This type of hair is usually dry and brittle so use a hydrating shampoo with conditioners. Look for products with ingredients such as Shea butter or jojoba oil.

Chemically Treated Hair. Choose shampoos with Shea butter, olive oil, pro-vitamin B and or green tea. Hydrate hair by using products with moisturizing and hydrating ingredients and be sure to use products with sunscreens. A weekly mask and or hot oil treatment will keep chemically treated hair in good condition.

Straight Hair. Choose a normal shampoo because straight hair is normally in good condition unless it has been abused with addition heat treatment. Split ends and breakages are more noticeable in straight hair. A serum will help smooth hair.

Fine Hair. Choose a volumizing shampoo, because fine hair tends to flatten or fly away. For Styling, use mousse at the roots, add Velcro curlers close to the base of the scalp and then dry. Also try a thickening agent or a dry shampoo.

Oily Hair – Use products that have jojoba oils( aids in removal of sebum or hair oils) , tea tree, rosemary and other non- abrasive cleansers. Dry Shampoos and dry powders help fight oil.

Thinning Hair- Aloa Vera is soothing; Neem oil, nettles, yucca stimulate the scalp, ginger thyme and cayenne increase circulation; horsetail supplies calcium to the hair and balm mint allows oxygen to flow into the bloodstream.

Whatever your hair type there are literally thousands of product on the market to choose from, but if you have an idea what your hair type, it will narrow your product selection and give you a better sense of products that will work the best for your hair.

ProSilk offers a selection of professional hair care products that are formulated with premium ingredients such as olive oil, jojoba oil, wheat protein and hydrolyzed silk.
