Creatures, Creativity and Computer Art at School

Local children are using the holidays to brush up on theirartistic abilities and creative talent.

A group of 60 are attending two Summer Art Schools at Drax PowerStation Visitor Centre this week (Monday 22 to Thursday 25 August)to discover more about a whole range of techniques and differentstyles from 3D modelling to the latest in computer generatedimaging and multimedia.

The two schools are run by David Anderson, a designer who runshis own graphics company and is an illustrator, renowned artist inwatercolour and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Children aged 7-10 are learning how to make creatures from bugsto birds and animals in an Arts & Crafts class using a varietyof materials along with t-shirt printing and painting while aMaster Class for 11 to 14 year-olds is helping them get to gripswith more advanced arts and digital technology.

David said: “It’s great to watch the free-flowing imagination ofchildren. For the youngsters the two days will give them the chanceto try out all sorts of ideas while older ones can perhaps improvetheir skills, technique and knowledge.”

The Summer Art Schools are now in their fourth year and areorganised by Drax to build on its Art In The Community scheme toencourage and develop art appreciation as part of the company’ssupport for education and to promote art learning within theNational Curriculum.
