LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 26 February 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) - A joint committee from CSAB and the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET has been formulating ideas for potential changes to the ABET Criteria for Accrediting Computing Programs, as well as to the program criteria for Computer Science, Information Systems, and Information Technology.
A survey is now available to solicit feedback on these ideas. Feedback can be submitted at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/caccriteria2013. Feedback is also being sought on proposed changes to the Information Systems program criteria. The changes are available at http://www.csab.org/102012/docs/cac-IS-criteria-2012-2013%20revision%20draft.pdf.
CSAB serves as a participating body of ABET Inc., with three members on the ABET Board of Directors. CSAB is the lead society within ABET for accreditation of degree programs in computer science, information systems, software engineering, and information technology, and is a cooperating society for accreditation of computer engineering, biological engineering, systems engineering, and information engineering technology. In this capacity, CSAB has responsibility for the development of accreditation criteria and for the selection, training, and assignment of program evaluators.
Accreditation decisions are made by the accreditation commissions of ABET. Within ABET, the Computing Accreditation Commission is responsible for the accreditation of programs in computer science, information systems, and information technology, while the Engineering Accreditation Commission is responsible for the accreditation of programs in software engineering.
CSAB is governed by its Board of Directors whose members are appointed by the member societies, the two largest technical, educational, and scientific societies in computer and computer-related fields: The Association for Computing Machinery, Inc. (ACM) and the IEEE-Computer Society (IEEE-CS). These organizations jointly established CSAB in 1985.
CSAB's Committees are responsible for strategic planning and assessment; criteria development; selection, training, and assignment of program evaluators; quality assurance of volunteers; awards and recognition; constituency relations; and nominations and appointments to CSAB and ABET offices.
