Cuatrecasas selects Enterasys to protect and update its network for mobility and BYOD

Enterasys Networks, a Siemens Enterprise Communications Company, today announced that Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, one of the largest and most renowned law firms in Spain, has selected Enterasys solutions to adapt its network for next-generation technologies. The project included the deployment of a OneFabric network infrastructure including wired and wireless, Mobile IAM and OneFabric Control Center for management.

The firm Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira is the result of the merger in 2003 of two of the largest and most renowned law firms on the Iberian Peninsula: Cuatrecasas (Spain), and Gonçalves Pereira, Castelo Branco (Portugal). They needed to update their old equipment to improve security and support the increasing use of mobility within the company.

The network now provides highly available and secure wired and wireless connectivity to 1600 users in 27 facilities all around the world. The network also supports around 6,000 devices, including servers, storage systems, desktops, laptops, IP phones, printers, tablets, smartphones and security devices (IP cameras, fingerprint scanners, etc.).

The Project, developed in collaboration with Siemens Enterprise Communications as a value added partner, included the following deployments:

• A Corporate Wi-Fi network, which provides secure mobility for all the users in 27 facilities all around the world
• A Guest Wi-Fi network, providing visitor access to a captive portal with secure Wi-Fi connectivity.
• An updated switching infrastructure, both for the core and access layer. The project also includes the deployment of Enterasys OneFabric Control Center. Thanks to the NetSight unified console, the whole network is managed by only two people plus some external support.
• Enterasys Mobile IAM for network access control (for both wired and wireless networks). Mobile IAM integrates with the existing MDM solution, which allows IT to validate all the devices connecting to the network, even tablets and smartphones, using certificates. Thanks to Mobile IAM, Cuatrecasas has complete visibility and granular control of all devices in the network.

Business goals: secure access, mobility and deployment of BYOD strategies

Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira sought to adapt its network for their current business requirements, including the deployment of mobility and BYOD strategies while reinforcing security and ensuring compliance with the strict normative in the law market. 

Now the network allows the use of laptops, tablets and smartphones in a secure way, within the company’s facilities, and provides controlled connectivity for guests. On the other hand, Enterasys Mobile IAM reinforces security at the access level, which is critical in the law business. Finally, Enterasys OneFabric Control Center allows management of the whole network from a single console.

Francesc Muñoz, CIO at Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, noted: “Mobility and security are two concepts which sometimes seem antagonistic, but they are within our DNA. The first one means productivity, flexibility and responsiveness, something that our customers appreciate. However, mobility without security is useless. Mobility brings new risks and we have to manage them."

Pere Solé, System Architecture Manager at Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, added: “So, once we decided to adopt our BYOD strategy and provide our offices all around the world with Wi-Fi, we also decided to mitigate the risks through a solution able to manage both wireless and wired connections. We found that Enterasys Mobile IAM complied with all these requirements."
