British Wheelchair Basketball appoints CWBA’s Head Coach Ally Hope as GB U25 Women’s Assistant Coach

Ally Hope’s appointment signifies the first formal appointment to the GB Women’s U25 Assistant Coach position, and a major development in the performance support for the team.

Working alongside the current GB U25 Women’s Head Coach Dan Price, Ally’s appointment will commence at the half term Futures Development Camp.

The timely announcement by British Wheelchair Basketball follows the recent allocation of National Lottery funding by UK Sport to support the delivery of selection camps and competition for the junior programmes.

The British Wheelchair Basketball junior women’s programme has enjoyed significant success over the last four years and currently hold both the U25 World and U25 European Championships’ titles.

With Ally joining the coaching team, the first priority will be to look towards the U25 Women’s European Championships which will take place later in 2018.

U25 Women’s Head Coach, Dan Price welcomes the news of his coaching partner and commented:

“It’s exciting news – we were fortunate that the role attracted a number of strong candidates and we were able to appoint an Assistant Coach of Ally’s calibre. He has a background in youth and development coaching, both of which will be real assets to our U25 team.

“Ally and I have briefly spoken about our priorities and targets for the team, but first and foremost we both agree that we need to underpin the team with the fundamental ethos of the GB Way – what is an elite athlete, and what behaviours does an elite athlete present both on and off the court.”

I have no doubt that our junior women will continue to build upon the historic success delivered by the team over the last four years.

Ally is equally looking forward to the future of women’s junior sport and added:

“I am excited by the opportunity, I am looking forward to being involved in developing the stars of tomorrow.

“The chance to continue to develop my knowledge and experience alongside Dan Price and other GB coaches is a fantastic opportunity, I can’t wait to get started and help achieve the goals within the programme.”
