Daniel's Journal Documentary Production Starts in 2009
Ottawa/Perth/Adolphustown Ontario - 19 Dec 2008
CyberSpace Industries 2000 Inc. is pleased to announce that production of the Documentary - "Daniel's Journal" will commence in early 2009. Shooting will take place in Ottawa, Downtown Heritage Perth and Adolphustown.
Daniel's Journal refers to the ledger book that was recovered in downtown Perth, in the rubble of the Thomas Wright Building when it was undergoing renovation. The book was deemed to be of historical importance by the National Archives, and it underwent a complex 10 year restoration process at the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI), before it was returned to the Perth Museum where it is now on display.
The ledger book was a document written by Daniel Daverne, the secretary/stores keeper in Perth, the first military settlement in Canada in 1816. It revealed an alternate history of Daniel Daverne that was at odds with the traditional historical view of Daniel where he was painted as quite a villain.
Research into the background of Daniel Daverne by Clark Theobald of Perth led him to the Daverne family still living on the farm in Adolphustown that was purchased by Daniel Daniel for his parents in 1816. There he discovered hundreds of historical documents and diaries from the 1800's that supported
the history found in the ledger book. This led Clark to develop and present "The Trial Of The Century" in the Perth Town Hall. In a mock trial, the evidence for and against Daniel was presented, and the audience acting as the "jury" declared Daniel innocent of the historical charges against him
The documentary "Daniel's Journal" will open this information up to a wider audience. It will present the viewer with these two alternate histories, and show how a serendipitous chain of events starting with the discovery of the entry book led to a collision of these histories and the ultimate revelation of a more
complete and accurate picture of the "real" Daniel Daverne. Perth scenes will be shot in the Perth Museum and other locations in town, with several Perth residents re-enacting their roles from the Trial of the Century”.
A companion web site will be developed to allow viewers to decide the guilt or innocence of Daniel based on the evidence in the documentary and follow new information as it becomes available.
