David A. Lash Elected as Board Member of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel
O'Melveny & Myers LLP is pleased to announce that David A. Lash, Managing Counsel of Pro Bono and Public Interest Services has been elected as a board member of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel (APBCO) and has become a member of the groups five-person Leadership Council.
LOS ANGELES, CA - February 9, 2010 -- APBCO is the nation’s leading professional services organization dedicated to the professional development of full-time lawyers who are committed to law firm pro bono programs.
Lash joins four other board officers who serve as the leadership council of APBCO and is one of two lawyers who have been elected to the council this year.
Since joining O’Melveny in 2003, Lash has taken charge of the O’Melveny’s daily pro bono operations and established the Firm’s Pro Bono Initiative - a recommitment by the Firm to enhance pro bono involvement. Under Lash’s leadership, the Firm’s pro bono activity has increased significantly year-by-year and has resulted in a dramatic series of engagements. In 2009, O’Melveny lawyers committed over 91,000 hours to pro bono services.
The uptick in pro bono activity under Lash’s leadership led to the Firm’s recent recognition on The American Lawyer's A-List for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2009. The "A-List" recognizes the nation's most elite firms for stellar performance in the areas of revenue generation, pro bono casework, associate satisfaction, and diversity representation.
Prior to joining O’Melveny & Myers, Lash served as the executive director of one of the country’s most well-known legal services programs, Bet Tzedek, The House of Justice, from 1994-2003.
Since its formation in 2006, APBCO has been committed to social justice and access to justice. With approximately 118 members from 80 different law firms, APBCO addresses the key issues that law firm’s face from how to run an effective pro bono program in a large law firm to how to impact a community. Seventy-eight of the law firms participating in APBCO have full-time lawyers managing their pro bono programs and sixty-three are AmLaw 100 firms.
