In-form Eddie Dawkins continued his strong form in the lead up to next month’s Commonwealth Games.

Dawkins has won the Fastest Man On Wheels competition at Trexlertown in Pennsylvania where the BikeNZ sprint squad is preparing for Glasgow.

He took out the final of the keirin competition, following on from his win over teammate Sam Webster in last weekend’s racing.

He edged our USA Champion Matthew Baranowski and Webster who filled out the podium in the final over the weekend. Teammate and Olympic medallist Simon van Velthooven was fifth in the final, after joining the team from Japan where he has been contesting the Japan Keirin Association racing.

Dawkins won his heat and beat Webster, who won through in the repechage, in his semifinal. Van Velthooven also won his heat and was third in the semifinal, while Matt Archibald also progressed from the repechage but missed out in the semifinal.

The sprint squad have a further week of training in Pennsylvania before moving to Bordeaux to join the endurance riders in final preparations for the Commonwealth Games.
