As I sat in the boat on my recent luxury tour of Mekong Delta, I was able to observe the day – to – day lives of farmers and produce sellers as we bobbed along the floating market and ate more than our fair share of fruit.

And it seem that Mekong tours are nothing if not consistent.
Like many tours, our trip began with a drive through Mekong Delta to the town of Cai Be, Known for its floating market. Here, we boarded a private boat for a cruise a long the maze of waterways and canals to Vinh Long. We then stopped at the home of a Bonsai gardener for a sumptuous Delta lunch, which included the popular”elephant ear fish”, before continuing our exploration of the tributaries and canals. Toward the end of the day, we arrived in Can Tho, the heart of Mekong Delta, for our overnight stay at the Victoria Can Tho Resort.

The next day I awoke to the sounds of the river and began my expedition ( minimum of four people) at 6:30am, eating breakfast aboard the “Lady Hau” while cruising to the floating market. When the boat arrived at Cai Rang we were transferred to a local boat to get a more authentic eaperience. The hotel’s guide next took us to a noodle factory and an orchard. Around four hours after we left, we came back to spend the afternoon as we liked.

On my third day, I took a half- day trip to Soc Trang, a neighbouring town and discovered the beautiful, ancient Khmer pagodas and swarms of bats congregating in the area, I then visited majestic Kleng Temple and Khmer museum before, sadly, I had to return to HCM.
