From Disruption to Default: Early Registration Opens for OSCON, OSCON Data, & OSCON Java
Sebastopol, CA, May 5, 2011—What do you do after you change the world? You change it again, using open source, of course. For thirteen years, OSCON, the O'Reilly Open Source Convention, has put open source to work building the future. This year, we've added two new conferences. OSCON Data and OSCON Java have graduated from tracks at previous OSCONs to become two distinct events, co-located with OSCON. OSCON Data and OSCON Java premier July 25-27, while OSCON runs the entire week of July 25-29, 2011, at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.
Once considered a radical upstart, open source has moved from disruption to default. The language of open is spoken in increasingly larger spheres, and OSCON's program encompasses 20 tracks to explore all things open source. Chairs Edd Dumbill and Sarah Novotny have added new tracks to OSCON this year, including Citizen Science, Geek Lifestyle, Open Data, Programming, and Emerging Languages, while Healthcare returns for its second year.
Keynote speakers at OSCON 2011 include:
# Michael Lopp (Rands in Repose)
# Jono Bacon (Canonical)
# John Graham-Cumming (Author, Geek Atlas, VP of Engineering, Causata, Inc.)
# Gabe Zichermann (Gamification Co)
# David Recordon (Facebook)
# Eri Gentry (BioCurious)
# Ariel Waldman (spacehack.org)
# Jim Zemlin (Linux Foundation)
# Paul Fenwick (Perl Training Australia)
Combine Java and open source and you can take on the tech world's juiciest challenges—in cloud computing, big data, mobile, and more. Chairs Stephen Chin and Laurel Ruma have shaped the OSCON Java program to cover tracks including Client, Cloud, Craftsmanship, JVM, and Trends.
Featured speakers at OSCON Java include:
# Charles Nutter (Engine Yard, Inc.)
# Martin Odersky (Scala Solutions)
# Patrick Curran (Oracle)
# Daniel Allen (JBoss by Red Hat, Inc.)
# Neal Ford (ThoughtWorks)
# Raffi Krikorian (Twitter)
# Robert "r0ml" Lefkowitz
Learn about the open source technologies for gathering, storing, and analyzing data that make it possible to use new data sources and do new things with existing data at OSCON Data. OSCON Data tracks created by chairs Sarah Novotny and Bradford Stephens cover Analytics and Visualization, Hadoop, NoSQL Databases, Real-Time and Streaming, Relational, and Roulette.
Featured speakers at OSCON Data include:
# Adrian Cockcroft (Netflix)
# Brian Aker (Data Differential)
# Tom White (Cloudera)
# Adam Silberstein (Yahoo!)
# Benjamin Black (Boundary)
# Ted Dziuba (eBay Local/Milo.com)
Early registration pricing applies until June 6.
