DMAA, CMSA to Present March 16 Webinar on Case Management Model Act
Presentation by top CMSA executives will highlight potential for Model Act to improve care coordination, transitions in care and clinical outcomes. Document provides framework for important standards at the federal and state levels.
WASHINGTON—DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance and the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) next week will present a 90-minute online presentation on the CMSA Case Management Model Act of 2009.
The Model Act provides a framework of important standards for case management services at the federal and state levels. The March 16 Webinar, "The Case Management Model Act: What You Need to Know," will explore the standards' potential to improve care coordination, transitions in care and clinical outcomes.
Speakers for the 3 to 4:30 p.m. EST Webinar will include CMSA Public Policy Committee Chair Carol A. Gleason MM, RN (opening remarks); CMSA Executive Director Cheri Lattimer, RN, BSN (presentation); and CMSA President Margaret Leonard, MS, RN-BC (closing remarks).
The Webinar will provide details on the Model Act's key provisions, including those for staff qualifications, case management functions, authorized scope of services, payment, training requirements, quality management programs and antifraud and consumer protection. The presentation also will discuss the nexus between the Model Act and population health management programs.
DMAA and CMSA last year announced an initiative to define and strengthen the relationship between health care case management and population health management interventions. The groups' initial collaboration culminated in August 2009 with adoption of the Model Act. The next major joint effort for the two organizations will be definition clarification related to CMSA's Standards of Practice, a dynamic and timely document that establishes formal written standards of practice from a variety of disciplines.
