Enabling both partners to become local market leaders for premium access solutions and services in Israel

Ennepetal, Germany -- The internationally active door system manufacturer DORMA has made a strategic entry in the Israeli market. Initially, this involves the acquisition by DORMA of 30 percent of the shares in Rafi Shapira & Sons Ltd., a privately owned family business located in Rishon Lezion that specialises in project business and glass applications.

DORMA is a trusted global partner for premium access solutions & services enabling better buildings. With more than 100 years of tradition behind it, DORMA has developed in revenue terms into the world market leader in door controls, movable walls and glass fittings and accessories. The economic conditions in Israel are good with the construction sector having entered a growth phase. Investments in both home-building and commercial construction increased by over 10 per cent in 2010 compared to the previous year. "By entering into this joint venture with Shapira, DORMA intends to participate in this expanding market. Shapira has a good distribution network and enjoys a strong position in the project business," explained DORMA CEO Thomas P. Wagner.

With a workforce of 170 employees and annual revenues of about EUR 9 million, Shapira has outstanding expertise in the important project business. For its part, Shapira will gain an opportunity to significantly expand its own portfolio in the distribution segment through know-how and product transfer from DORMA as the world market leader and enabler of better buildings. By exhausting identified synergies within the DORMA network, this step will ensure that the joint activities of the companies are permanently strengthened within Israel, enabling the partners to quickly assume the position of local market leader for premium access solutions and services.
