Dueling Desserts Returns For Round 2 at Art Fair in Highland, IL
Top area chefs showcase edible desserts in food-as-art competition & demo as part of Art in the Park weekend festivities
Highland, IL, August 25, 2010 – The Highland Arts Council is pleased to announce the return of Dueling Desserts, a food-as-art competition to be held October 9 and 10 as part of a weekend of art festivities at Art in the Park in Highland, IL. Due to the overwhelming popularity of Dueling Desserts at last year’s fair, the attraction will take place on both days of the fair this year and will feature a lineup of well-known names from the area’s culinary community.
Participants in this year’s Dueling Desserts are: Simone Fauer, executive pastry chef at the Ritz Carlton-St. Louis, Timothy Grandinetti, executive chef at Overlook Farm in Clarksville, Mo; Pat Jacoby, cake designer and owner of Patty-Cakes in Highland; Cupcake expert Stephanie Pollack of The Cupcake Project; Pastry chef Claire Robberson from Eclipse Restaurant in St. Louis; Matt Boekhout from The Boekhout Bakery in Carbondale; Brian Pelletier, owner and chief chocolatier of Kakao.
From noon until 2 p.m., participants will hold demonstrations to explain the dessert-making process for their edible, artistic creations. Desserts will be on display and attendees can vote for their favorite artful dessert by dropping spare change in jars. Proceeds are donated to a food pantry operated by Highland Area Christian Services Ministry.

Dueling Desserts is one of many events planned for Art in the Park, a two-day juried art competition, exhibition and sale. Now in its seventh year, Art in the Park features original works by over 70 artists in a wide range of mediums. Artwork will be exhibited and offered for sale in outdoor booths on Saturday, October 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Other attractions include artist demonstrations, children’s activities, live entertainment, and food and beverages.
