Ebticar Media grants 11 innovative Arab media projects

EBTICAR Media's jury gathered on 8 and 9 July 2014 at Villa Méditerranée, in Marseille, to select future grantees out of 28 projects presented and defended by the candidates with the participation of CFI, Anna Lindh Foundation, Samir Kassir Foundation and Babelmed.

11 highly competitive projects were retained for this round from 130applications from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, Syria and Tunisia. EBTICAR Media will provide both grants and direct project support with the aim of assisting online media providers around the Mediterranean to develop and strengthen their organisations:

- FRAME (Lebanon)

- INKYFADA (Algeria)

- INNOVA TUNISIA (Tunisia)

- I2MIND (Syria)

- MADA MASR (Egypt)

- MASHALLAH NEWS (Lebanon)

- RADIO M (Algeria)

- TUNISIE BONDY BLOG & SPEAK OUT TUNISIA (Tunisia)

- VIZUALIZING IMPACT (Lebanon)

The 26 shortlisted applicants gathered at the Villa Méditerranée of Marseille. The selected 11 projects are those considered to be the most useful to their community, the most innovative in marrying online media with news technology and the most sustainable. Each project will receive funding of between €20,000 and €80,000 to enable it to develop and build their organization.

During the two-day selection process in Marseille, applicants will also had the chance to take part in training workshops on the evolution of online media in the Arab World, held by BBC Media Action as part of the “Europe’s Neighbours” programme.

EBTICAR-MEDIA (E-Booster for Technical and Innovative Contents in the Arab Region, which also means “innovation” in Arabic) is an EU funded project in partnership let by CFI in partnership with ALF,  Babelmed and SKF with the objective of the development and support of innovative online media in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestinian territories, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon through the award of subsidies for the most innovative proposals.
