Ego Actus Artistic Director Joan Kane Joins Judging Panel of Unchained Love Playwright Competition

NYC theatre personality Joan Kane joins the judging panel for the Unchained Love Playwright Competition, sponsored by Open Love NY. The competition will award $1,000 in cash prizes to the best one-act and full-length plays that best show the truth and nature of modern, non-monogamous relationships.

NEW YORK CITY - United States., September 17, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint) - Open Love NY, a New York-based organization that supports and educates people exploring modern relationship styles, announced that Joan Kane, director, dramaturg and Artistic Director of New York theatre company Ego Actus, is joining the judging panel for the “Unchained Love Playwright Competition.”

Kane was named one of 2011 People of the Year in indie theatre by She directed Safe at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Play Nice! Off-Broadway at the 59e59 Theaters, Aliens with Extraordinary Skills at Theater 54 and Pizza Man at the Bridge Theater. She has directed plays and readings at numerous theaters and festivals all over the world. She has an MFA in Directing from The New School, an MS in Museum Education from Bank Street College and is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, and the League of Professional Theatre Women.

“It’s an honor to have an award-winning director of Joan’s stature participate in the competition as a judge, and bring her critical and experienced eye to the entries,” said Mischa Lin, competition producer.

The purpose of the competition is to encourage new theatrical works that don’t rely on a traditional monogamous view of love. A $750 cash prize will be awarded for the best full-length play and $250 for the best one-act play. The competition is open for entries, which must be received no later than December 15, 2013 to be considered.
