HOUSTON – (March 9, 2014) – Chris Bronk, Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy fellow in information technology, is available to comment on the passport fraud discovered after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

When e-passport technology was introduced into international travel documents nearly a decade ago,  Bronk studied the potential weaknesses in passport security.

Bronk’s paper, “Innovation by Policy: A Study of the Electronic Passport (2007),” provides background on anti-fraud measures found in passports today and is available at http://scholarship.rice.edu/handle/1911/20481.

A current New York Times story, “Passport Theft Adds to Mystery of Missing Malaysia Airlines Jet,” is available here: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/10/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-flight.html?_r=0.
