eMUSIC CONTINUES WEBSITE TRANSFORMATION:
New Artist Page Offers Fans
More Context and Interactivity for Music Discovery
NEW YORK, Nov. 3, 2008 -- eMusicthe world’s largest retailer of independent music and world’s second largest digital music service after iTunes, today continues the major transformation of its website with a new, highly interactive artist page that allows eMusic customers to see the breadth and depth of an artist’s catalogue while surfacing the eMusic community’s opinion of the artist’s work.
eMusic is setting the standard for how digital entertainment retailers must function online. The new Web 2.0 features further its mission to provide more musical context than competitors such as iTunes, AmazonMP3 and Rhapsody and respond to the ways in which consumer music discovery behavior has changed with the popularity of social networking sites, blogs and simply the vast amount of information available on the web.
eMusic has improved the music discovery process by making it significantly easier for music fans to get a comprehensive overview of an artist’s work without ever leaving the page. For example, visitors to the Belle and Sebastian eMusic artist page can now access an interactive list of the artist’s vast repertoire, including tools to instantly sort and discover albums by popularity, release date, or newest additions. Clicking an album image provides immediate information on that album including track listing, community ranking, release date, label information, and the ability to hear samples of the entire album.
The “Top Tracks” feature also displays a selection of top Belle & Sebastianmusic downloads, as ranked by the eMusic community, offering a recommended starting point for someone new to their work. A short, dozen words or less description explains why customers might care about the artist: “From rough and tumble Glasgow comes Belle and Sebastian's precious and essential pop.”
“eMusic has always focused on offering a superioronline musicdiscovery experience, and combining the eMusic community’s passion for music with rich, dynamic content from the web allows us to offer music fans simple ways to dig deeper and explore artists,“ said Jack Welde, eMusic Senior Vice President of Product Development. “With the new interactive tools eMusic is launching today, the music discovery process has become significantly easier and more fun for our customers.”
As with eMusic’s new album page launched in July, the new artist page also pulls in best-of-web content on the artist from YouTube, Flickr and Wikipedia and allows eMusic’s “taste-making” customers to share their finds outside the eMusic community. They can, for example, bookmark the artist page or send it to their social network feed on 18 of the most popular social media sites, including Facebook, Digg, Del.icio.us, Twitter and Stumble Upon.
eMusic plans to add support for more social media sites over time and has additional dramatic new features planned before the end of the year, including a new home page and a third generation recommendation engine.
