• Stars from all 18 teams walked down the runway in the atrium at Endesa’s headquarters in Madrid for the opening curtain of the 2014-2015 season, which promises to be an eventual one.

The Chairman of Endesa, Borja Prado, and the Executive General Manager of the Spanish Basketball Association (ACB), Francisco Roca, with the players.

• The Endesa League kicks off Saturday, 4 October, the day of the tip-off marking the beginning of nine months of competition during which 18 clubs will do battle for the championship title.

The central atrium of the headquarters of Endesa in Madrid was selected to be the stage for the opening curtain of a new season of the Endesa League, which will get underway next weekend with the first day of play.

The opening ceremony, featuring the leading players of Spanish basketball, was attended by Lalo Alzueta, the new voice of the Endesa League on TVE, and his predecessor, Arsenio Cañada, as masters of ceremonies. Borja Prado, the Chairman of Endesa, hosted the ceremony and welcomed those in attendance, emphasizing what it means for Endesa to support the values represented by basketball and the Endesa League. Next, Francisco Roca, the Executive General Manager of the Spanish Basketball Association (ACB), expressed thanks for the warm welcome and underscored his confidence in the good level of play to be enjoyed during this new season.

Andrés Nocioni (Real Madrid), Álex Abrines (FC Barcelona), Kostas Vasileiadis (Unicaja), Thomas Heurtel (Laboral Kutxa Baskonia), Walter Tavares (Herbalife Gran Canaria), Nacho Martín (Tuenti Móvil Estudiantes), Víctor Sada (MoraBanc Andorra), Raulzinho Neto (UCAM Murcia CB), Henk Norel (CAI Zaragoza), Pau Ribas (Valencia Basket Club), Willy Hernangómez (Baloncesto Sevilla), Dani Díez (Gipuzkoa Basket), Andy Panko (Montakit Fuenlabrada), Sergi Vidal (FIATC Joventut), Ben Dewar (La Bruixa d’Or Manresa), Luke Sikma (Iberostar Tenerife), Alberto Corbacho (Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro) and Álex Mumbrú (Bilbao Basket) represented their respective teams at the ceremony and offered their first impressions on the upcoming season.

They did so by fielding the questions posed by the hosts and others sent by Twitter by a number of celebrities and fans. Juanma López Iturriaga, host of this ceremony the last three years and until last season a commentator for the broadcasts on Spanish Television, and coach Óscar Quintana, who will help with the play by play this season, posed the final questions to the players.

Naturally there was also show time, delivered by Quim Moya, a specialist in “Live painting” who performed one of his works during the presentation, as well as the Dream Cheers, who livened the evening with their magnificent choreographies.

The traditional "family portrait" and the customary hospitality shown by the players towards the media brought the ceremony at this first meeting of the 2014-15 Endesa League to an end. On Saturday 4 October, at tip-off, show time will resume. The regular season will end on 24 May 2015 and will be followed by the playoffs, which will conclude in June. Nor should we overlook another important date in Spanish basketball, the Copa del Rey, which will be held this year in Gran Canaria and which will be the centre of attention once again of international basketball.

Almost nine months of top-level basketball, in which the players will once again be the authentic protagonists. Naturally, the stars of the competition did not miss this first event at Endesa.

Endesa All Star League

In addition, this year the Endesa League has a perfect complement in the Endesa All Star League, a game for cell phones and tablets available at iTunes and Google Play which allows players to train with the official teams and face off against their friends in three classic basketball duels:  the three-point shootout, the mythical 21 and the last possession of a tied game. Madrid Games Week, the big video game fair in Spain, held from 16 to 19 October in IFEMA, is the place chosen for the inauguration of the game through which Endesa will reinforce its support for basketball.
