Energen Corporation is now accepting entries for its 15th Annual Energen Art Competition. The art competition, which celebrates Alabama artists, will be held March 10-21, 2014, in Birmingham. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2014.
The five winning entries will be purchased by Energen to become part of the company’s “Wonders of Alabama Art” collection and displayed at the company’s headquarters or in the offices of its subsidiaries.
Purchase awards include a $7,500 grand prize, and four $3,000 awards in the categories of landscape, non-representational, wildlife and employee choice.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Red Mountain Theatre Company, a nonprofit professional theatre organization that provides educational, training and performing opportunities for aspiring and culturally diverse artists while growing new and existing audiences through quality theatrical experiences. RMTC also offers several different youth programs, workshops and scholarship opportunities.
Here are the requirements for entry:
Artists must be 18 years of age and older and live or have lived in Alabama.
Artwork must be original and must have been painted no more than three years prior to the date of the competition.
Eligible work must be two-dimensional and in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, pen and ink or mixed media.
All artwork must measure no larger than 6 feet by 6 feet (with or without frame) and be suitable for hanging.
All applicants must first submit a completed entry form and a CD containing an image of the artwork for preliminary judging and a $35 entry fee for each entry.
There is a limit of three entries per artist.

Exhibition days for finalists will be held March 10-21 at Energen Plaza in Birmingham where final judging will occur.
