Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that the Company’s CEO, Eugene Kaspersky, has received the VB2010 Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the antimalware industry.
Eugene won the award following a poll of the delegates at the 20th international information security conference VB2010, organized by the authoritative Virus Bulletin magazine.
Eugene Kaspersky is one of the world's leading antivirus experts with over 20 years of experience in the field of information security behind him. Inspired to research computer viruses in 1989 after he discovered the Cascade virus on his computer, Eugene went on to work at the KAMI Information Technologies Center from ‘91 to ’97, developing the AVP antivirus project together with a group of like-minded associates. In November 2000, AVP was redubbed Kaspersky Anti-Virus, a name that still appears in the Company’s product range today. Eugene Kaspersky co-founded Kaspersky Lab in 1997, and was appointed CEO of the Company in 2007. Over the years, the Company has demonstrated prolific growth and its pioneering work has led to numerous breakthroughs in antivirus protection.
Eugene Kaspersky regularly speaks at seminars and conferences all over the world and has authored a vast array of articles and reviews covering IT Security related topics. In 2009, he was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology, before going on to add CEO of the Year award from SC Magazine Europe to his collection of titles in 2010.
This year’s Virus Bulletin conference was held in the Canadian city of Vancouver from 29 September to 1 October. This year, some of the company’s leading analysts made six presentations on such diverse topics as: ‘Unraveling Stuxnet', ‘Russian cybercriminals on the move: Profiting from mobile malware', ‘Automated targeted attacks’, ‘How much do you cost? The black market price of your digital data', ‘Caution: Level Pegel. The ideal computer infecting scheme’ and ‘The ROP Pack’.
