Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina spoke to a high school law education class at Hanahan High School in Hanahan, SC on Wednesday November 14^th 2012. The law education class teaches the fundamentals of everyday law to high school students that they can use in their real life. This was the second time that attorney Guthrie has spoke at Hanahan High. The first time was in the previous school year when Mr. Guthrie spoke to a group of selected students that may have been interested in a career in law. This was the first time that attorney Guthrie spoke to a regularly scheduled class at Hanahan. The class lasted about an hour in duration. Mr. Guthrie began by telling the class about his background and how a high school student goes from high school to becoming a lawyer. Attorney Guthrie interjected his own experiences while explaining the process of school requirements and exams.

The students in the class were actively participating by asking questions that included the best and hardest parts about being a lawyer, how to get and keep clients, do you ever get nervous going to court, does the job ever get dangerous, how to evaluate a case, and how to get compensated for different types of cases. The students also asked Mr. Guthrie about case problems they have encountered in their class and his opinion on how the cases turned out. Attorney Guthrie was joined by his law clerk Charlotte Allen who answered questions about college and classes and other things that students should do while in high school to prepare themselves for law school and a future career in law. Mr. Guthrie enjoyed his visit to the law education class and representing local attorneys and the legal profession. Attorney Guthrie was inspired by attorneys that visited his classes in high school and is happy to visit school and possibly inspire the next generation of lawyers.
