Fairchild Semiconductor Receives Two Prestigious Awards in China
Low-Cost, Low-Power Solutions for LED Lighting and USB Charging Prove Popular with Design Engineers in China
SAN JOSE, Calif., – February 26, 2013 – Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high-performance power and mobile semiconductor solutions, has been named a winner of two prestigious media awards in China.
The FL7730 PWM controller, which enables TRIAC dimming in LED lighting applications, has received a 2012 Product Award from 21IC, a leading online publication for designers and managers in China's electronics industry.
Additionally, the FAN104W high-frequency primary-side regulation (PSR) PWM controller, has been named "The Most Competitive Power Device in China 2012," by China Electronics Market, a monthly publication providing coverage of new products, technology trends, and market data.

A highly integrated device, the FL7730 has several features that enhance the performance of single-stage flyback converters, allowing it to function as a dimmable single-stage PFC PSR offline LED driver. Use of Fairchild TRUECURRENT® technology enables simplified circuit design, and the FL7730 adopts a single-stage topology with primary-side regulation (PSR), allowing implementation of an LED lighting board with few external components, at lower cost. Power factor correction (PFC) with low total harmonic distortion is supported by constant on-time control, and the end result is smooth flicker-free TRIAC dimming, without the need for an input bulk capacitor or feedback circuitry.

The FAN104W high-frequency primary-side regulation (PSR) PWM controller helps meet the design challenges of portable devices that require a USB charger with lower standby power consumption and higher system efficiency in a small form factor. Incorporating Fairchild's green-mode function, which provides off-time modulation to linearly decrease PWM frequency under light-load conditions, the FAN104W exceeds the USB charger standard with a low standby power of < 30mW and an improved dynamic response of > 4.1V.
Leveraging Fairchild's expertise in primary-side regulation, the FAN104W does not require a secondary-side feedback loop and efficiently converts and manages the power supply of the charging device. Additionally, the device minimizes component count and overall bill-of-material costs with a highly integrated 500V JFET that reduces start-up losses by shutting off the current path after the device has been turned on. Together, these optimized features make the FAN104W a well balanced solution for USB chargers.
