Fairchild Semiconductor's FAN6756 Single-Chip PWM Solution Receives China Best ICs and Solutions Award
mWSaver™ Technology Provides Ultra-Low Standby Power and Saves Board Space
SAN JOSE, Calif., - January 21, 2013 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high-performance power and mobile semiconductor solutions, has announced that its FAN6756 PWM controller, featuring mWSaver™ technology, has been selected as an Outstanding Solution in the 2012 China Best ICs and Solutions Award in the Smart Energy category.
One of the most prestigious awards for China's electronics industry, the China Best ICs and Solutions Award is organized jointly by the Microelectronics Development Center of the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the China-based electronics publications Global Electronics China (GEC) and ChinaECNet.
The FAN6756 is a highly integrated green-mode PWM controller, capable of significantly reducing standby losses in switch-mode power supply (SMPS) designs, eliminating up to 15 external components, which is ideal for power supplies that demand extremely low standby power. This single-chip solution incorporates mWSaver technology and allows the device to reduce power losses not only in the controller itself, but also in the external circuits and components making it suitable for notebook adapters, printers and game consoles, as well as open-frame SMPS for LCD TVs, LCD monitors and printers.
The FAN6756 also includes an innovative AX-CAP™ discharge method that minimizes losses at the electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter stage by eliminating the X-cap discharge resistors and discharging X-cap energy through the HV pin when the power is unplugged from the AC outlet, while still meeting the IEC61010-1 safety requirement. The device also incorporates robust protection features - including Fairchild's proprietary Sense Resistor Short-Circuit Protection (SSCP), which shuts down the PWM output to prevent system damage when the sense resistor is shorted - providing a safe and reliable solution.
