Chicagoland charity to host annual golf outing at legendary country club

DATE 2014 (SCHAUMBURG, Ill.) – Avid golf enthusiasts, executives from the information technology industry, and individuals who care deeply about speeding up treatment and cures for cancer will tee up for charity on Monday June 30th to help bring potentially life-saving cancer care to patients who need it most. The third annual Cures Ahead Golf Invitational will take place at the prestigious Medinah Country Club, home to prominent PGA tournaments, the 2012 Ryder Cup and is considered one of the most sought-after courses to play in the entire country. Proceeds from participants and sponsors will benefit innovative research grants awarded by Gateway for Cancer ResearchSM.

The annual Cures Ahead Golf Invitational is hosted by Gateway for Cancer Research in partnership with Cancer Treatment Centers of America® as well as the IT innovation company AHEAD®. Karen Kay, Director of Development for Gateway, attributes the past success and growing interest in this event to the unique partnership formed between Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) and AHEAD.

When CTCA and AHEAD approached Gateway with the idea of an annual charity golf event in early 2012, we had no idea it would take off so quickly,” said Kay. “Both CTCA and AHEAD are actively involved in the
planning and promotion of our charity golf event, helping to create a
fun and meaningful experience for the golfers.”

The collaboration between Gateway, CTCA and AHEAD anticipates a sold-out event with 120+ golfers representing more than 30 sponsors including top sponsors AHEAD, CTCA, EMC, Insight, Cisco, ICMC, Kailo Healthcare Technologies and Digital Realty have all committed to helping courageous patients feel better, live longer or be cured today. The single-day tournament will offer on-course activities and competitions, as well as an evening program with dinner, awards and an eye-catching silent auction. All funds raised at the event will directly support innovative cancer clinical trials that explore new ways for helping today’s cancer patients feel better, live longer or be cured.

“We are incredibly thankful for the support and generosity of all our sponsors and golfers,” added Kay. “The money raised will help Gateway to partner with leading cancer researchers who are equally as passionate about discovering potentially life-saving treatments that bring cures to patients in this generation.”

In its 22 year history, Gateway has funded more than 100 cancer clinical trials at world-renowned research institutions across the country and abroad. The research studies funded by Gateway are for all types of cancers and, most importantly, centered on the needs of today’s cancer patients.

“It’s encouraging to see a nonprofit like Gateway take the lead in fostering change within the cancer research field,” said Daniel Adamany, founder and chief executive officer of AHEAD. “A true measure of progress is when outside-the-box thinking and new technologies impact the lives of cancer fighters.”

Gateway is always and only about the patient; in funding interesting research studies and impacting lives and giving hope to patients who may have very few treatment options. 99 cents of every dollar generously donated by individuals, business and foundations directly funds cancer research.
