WILLIAMSBURG, Va., October 5, 2017 – “Family Frights at Jamestown Settlement,” a Halloween-theme museum night for elementary-school-age children, returns for the fourth year on Friday and Saturday, October 20 and 21.  Trick-or-treating, ghostly tales and grisly games are among activities offered from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on both dates.

Smoke, lanterns and sound effects will create a ghostly atmosphere in Jamestown Settlement’s living-history areas. Along with trick-or-treating at buildings in the re-created early 1600s fort, families can explore friendly and frightful haunted houses and take in a witch trial. New this year in the fort will be haunted houses with “Harry Potter” and “Wizard of Oz” themes.

Toward the 1607 ships’ pier, visitors can pass a riverfront bonfire and a sailor’s graveyard, and then climb aboard a haunted Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery, each with its own spooky theme, for trick-or-treating.

Visitors will experience ghost stories, face painting and fortune-telling along a spooky “Forest of Frights” boardwalk, where ghostly specters dot the landscape. Children can make creepy crafts and compete in games like pumpkin bowling and hula-hoop and beanbag toss.

Admission is $7 per child, ages 4-12, and $3 per adult. Children ages 3 and under are free. Each party must include at least one adult over age 18. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at Jamestown Settlement. Tickets also will be available at the door. Annual passes and other discounts do not apply.

Jamestown Settlement, a museum of 17th-century Virginia, is located at 2110 Jamestown Road.  For more information about Family Frights, visit http://www.historyisfun.org/jamestown-settlement/fright-nights-at-jamestown-settlement/ or call (757) 253-4838.
