WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., Nov. 19, 2010 – On Monday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m., Images Cinema in Williamstown will show “Revolucion,” a new film that has won international acclaim. The film is free and open to the public.

The film will be introduced by Nicholas Goodbody, visiting professor of Spanish. “Revolucion” consists of ten short pieces by well-known Latin American directors, including Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. Each shares a different creative vision of Mexico, its people, and its struggles over the last century. Together, they form a collective tribute to the spirit of the Mexican Revolution and a meditation on its evolving meaning to young people in contemporary Mexico.

The Los Angeles Times describes the film as a series of "compelling and provocative" vignettes that trace dreams and nightmares, humor, bitterness, and nostalgia and says, "collectively, the films raise many unanswered and perhaps unanswerable questions about where Mexico has been and where its people, politics and culture are headed."

The film officially opens on Nov. 20 in Mexico City and Washington D.C. as part of celebrations for the centennial of the Mexican Revolution. It has shown at several international film festivals in Berlin, London, and Cannes and won prizes in Tokyo and Biarritz. The showing at Images is sponsored by the Williams College Center for Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, the departments of Romance Languages and History, and Vista, the Latino student group at the college.
