GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Spring is a period of renewal, and for many people that means time to clean and organize their home. Tackling the house can be a daunting task, but Sarah Hays, Kitchen Appliances and Floorcare Merchandise Associate at Meijer, shares a few projects to help get your living space in order.

1. Make a good first impression.

Start by organizing the entryway to give visitors a warm welcome. Rotate jackets, shoes and accessories for the season, and consider purchasing some fabric or metal storage bins to contain the clutter. “Add an umbrella stand, and fill a tray with pebbles for a DIY place to dry wet rain boots or muddy gardening shoes,” suggests Hays.

2. Attend to neglected areas.

Spring cleaning is the perfect time to prioritize fixtures like ceiling fans, vents, window blinds and radiators that are easy to overlook. Meijer offers cleaning tools for these hard-to-reach places where dust and grime build up.

3. Declutter the closet.

Space-saving tools are a great investment when it comes to closets, says Hays. Hang shower curtain rings on a clothes hanger and loop scarves through the hooks to organize accessories. Hanging organizers, tiered plastic clothes hangers and plastic shoe boxes can not only free up extra room, but make your daily routine more efficient.

4. Refresh the refrigerator.

Spring brings with it new seasonal produce, and a clean refrigerator helps keeps fruits and veggies fresh. Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water and scrub down shelves and drawers. “Vinegar may be your kitchen’s new best friend,” explains Hays. Use it to deep clean the sink, appliances, glassware, coffeemaker, and more. Add a box of baking soda to the refrigerator side door to help eliminate future odors.

5. Be creative in the bathroom.

Hang a magnet board or install some magnet strips to the inside of the medicine cabinet to store bobby pins, tweezers, nail clippers and more. Spice racks also can double as storage for lotions, hair products and other toiletries.
