Tonight, the curtain falls over this year’s I/ITSEC Modelling, Simulation & Training Conference in Orlando. Barco/projectiondesign looks back upon a successful show, where it showcased its F50 wqxga, the upgraded FS35 IR and the SIM 7Q HC IR projectors. On the occasion of the conference, we have listed up some recent simulation reference stories. One is that of the AirTanker training center at the Brize Norton station in Oxfordshire, the largest military base of the British Royal Air Force (RAF).

Rehearsing in-flight refueling

RAF Brize Norton is where the majority of UK troops are trained for tactical operations in the field. At the AirTanker training center, one of the base’s many training centers, pilots spend hours rehearsing in-flight refueling in the state-of-the-art Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) simulator. Since 2012, the simulator features three projectiondesign FL35 LED projectors, which help ensure a lifelike training experience.

Easily meeting all requirements

Integrator RSI Visual Solutions chose Barco’s FL35 LED projectors after an in-depth selection procedure. The FL35 appeared to be the only solution that could meet all the needs – high resolution, image consistency, low TCO, level D requirements - while offering the best value for money.

Excellent images, low TCO

“I’ve used a number of simulators over the last thirty years, both military and commercial,” says Max Wright, Training Services Manager at AirTanker. “I have to say that the FL35 images are the most realistic we have ever encountered - absolutely sensational.” More than promoting excellent images, the FL35 LED projectors have drastically improved the operation uptime of the simulator, which has positive effects on the system’s TCO.
