New York City, United States., January 8, 2013 - (PressReleasePoint)  – Traveling foodie author Jennifer Rabinowitz will be reading from her Little Black Book series, offering a glimpse at how her book series came to be as well as answering questions as to why a restaurant or food item is book worthy.  The event will take place on January 9 at 6 p.m. at the New York Public Library in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, South Court Auditorium. Open to the public with no reserved seating, the auditorium capacity is 120.

Traveling around the country, Rabinowitz found herself seeking out the best restaurants everywhere she went. The desire to share her knowledge with others led to her first Little Black Book in 2003, a snappy little food guide to the best in Manhattan. Her works offer a fun, quirky voice, a fast reference and the knowing perspective of being a stranger in a strange city.

An excerpt from Little Black Book: Fowl Language

le bilboquet (25 East 63rd Street / btw Madison and Park, NYC)

"A friend of a friend recommended I try the chicken at Le Bilboquet. So I called to make a lunch reservation but was curtly informed that they weren't necessary. (This led me to believe that getting a table would not be a problem.) But just to be safe and at my request, I met a willing associate at Noon sharp. And just as he's ribbing me about the place being empty… the entire jewel box with no sign, no street number and big attitude jams entirely with suits, fancy Francophiles, and glittery foreigners. So we sat snugly at our two top and chatted while we enjoyed the amazingly fresh salmon tar-tar appetizer on a bed of slim cukes with a minced onion garnish and crustless toast points. Soon our entrées arrived and I was thrilled by the delicately sliced medallions of Cajun chicken carefully fanned out with a golden sauce speckled with diced tomatoes partnered up with a heap of golden fries and a small salad. Chicken can often be rubbery or dry or under-seasoned but this was pure poultry perfection. I'm usually not one to use fowl language, but this is the best cluckin' chicken I've ever had!"

In her first speaking engagement, Rabinowitz will discuss growing up in a food-obsessed household and how her passion for all things delicious has led her to indulge her readers with flavorful write-ups of must-try restaurants.  She’ll also reveal why a restaurant makes it into her books.

Nine years and thousands of insatiable readers later, she has completed eight editions. The ninth, titled “Sweet Revenge,” will debut in June.

About the Author

Jennifer Rabinowitz is a New York Foodie. Wanting to be a copywriter since graduating from Emory in 1990, Jen started her career in advertising and tried as many New York restaurants as she could afford. After twelve years of the art, copy, and management life and hundreds of restaurants sampled, Jen transitioned into finance where she has focused her professional career ever since. Missing the creative outlet and having to entertain prospects and referral sources for lunch daily, Jen penned her first “Little Black Book” in 2003.

The Little Black Book LBB was a snappy little food guide to the best in Manhattan, dubbed a “Where To Go And What To Eat When You Get There” glossy. It had categories like Best Hot Chocolate and Best Funky Asian and she peppered in quotes from her mother and sprinkled in some tasty tidbits from her dad. She printed just 50 copies. Nine years later, with eight editions completed, a ninth one in the works and a novel that’s taking shape, Jen has an insatiable audience of thousands nationwide. With titles like Made From Scratch, Portion Control, Family Style and her latest, Fowl Language, Jen’s Little Black Book offers glowing restaurant reviews with a very personal spin—she’s touched on her mother’s rules for dessert, her ex-husband’s fascination with marinades and her son’s addiction to her pasta—all while describing the Best TV Dinner, Best Kept Secret, Best Early Bird Special and Best Pudding. The intimate stories, gently folded into her foodie reviews have created a unique platform for savory and sweet storytelling. In her first speaking engagement regarding the series, Jen will discuss growing up in a food obsessed household and how her passion for all things delicious has led her to indulge her audience with flavorful write ups of must try restaurants.

Jennifer Rabinowitz lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with her son, Matthew. She works as a VP for Wells Fargo Bank where she specializes in business development. Her best networking is usually done over lunch!
