The Columbus Memorial Library of the Organization of American States (OAS) today received a donation of 2,295 books and hundreds of documents, maps and photographs from the Organization's former Assistant Secretary General Luigi Einaudi.

The collection includes correspondence from Einaudi, who was also interim Secretary General, with government authorities, international organizations, political parties, diplomats, authorities and OAS officials on political processes in Haiti, Central America, Peru and Ecuador.

The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, praised the donation to the Columbus Memorial Library, "a reference in all the Americas." "Ambassador Einaudi is someone who deeply values the written word and wants to ensure its preservation for future generations," said Almagro, who highlighted the quality of the books, maps, videos, photographs and other documents of the donated collection.

For his part, Ambassador Einaudi explained his desire that the collection be integrated into the OAS collection. "My intention in making this donation is to ensure that what I have collected survives me," he said.

Founded 128 years ago, the Columbus Memorial Library's general collection has more than 700,000 volumes, 8,000 photographs and around 10,000 books, among other documents.
