Former Astronauts Seek SSI Disability for Mysterious Space Sickness

People often make SSI disability claims after receiving a diagnosis of a severe illness or being a victim to an accident. Common reasons for filing for SSI disability include cancer, strokes, heart attacks, and injuries at work, but a small group of former astronauts are trying to receive government help for a rare and mysterious sickness that may be a result of traveling in space.
"I went to the doctor with an abundance of weird symptoms", said John Carrey, a former astronaut. "It took several trips to several dozen doctors before I was able to get a proper diagnosis."
The medical expert believes that John Carrey is showing symptoms of his trips into space. The symptoms did not resemble any other illness that a doctor could identify.
"The symptoms that Carrey came in with were similar to the flu, but they didn't resemble any flu I've come across", said the doctor that was treating John Carrey. "It was then that I started researching space illnesses. I then discovered that the problem lied in the space travel."
The mysterious space sickness doesn't have a name as of yet, but it does leave the former astronauts unable to work. This is what led the astronauts to file for SSI disability. Unfortunately, due to the mysterious nature of it the claims were denied.
"I was surprised that the claim for SSI disability was denied", said Carrey. "I can't work. There are numerous test results and other things that prove I can't work, yet they declined it. I knew at that point that I had to find a lawyer to help."
John Carrey was able to find a lawyer who happened to represent another former astronaut in the SSI disability dispute. He was able to get the former astronaut the money he deserved within a four months.
"It really is not uncommon for the government to decline an SSI disability claim when they've never heard of the illness", said the SSI disability lawyer. "I had to prove how the illness impacted the individuals and that there wasn't a cure in sight."
The mysterious space illness is believed to be a result of the change in gravitational pull when the astronauts come back to Earth. It is currently being studied by several space organizations.
"I really would like them to find out what causes it and figure out how to treat it", said Carrey. "But until then I am happy that I have some money coming in. This illness is terrible."
