Birgit was the only female breaking into the male dominated sport of motorcycle racing in southern California, showing courage and determination to win a championship against all odds and encountering injuries, destitution, homelessness, and the threat of deportation along the way.

In 2011, 26 years later, Birgit rekindled her love affair with motorcycles when she bought a Honda CBR 600 and now feels the thrill, fascination and passion at a different age. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born and raised in Germany, Birgit Soyka became one of the first female motorcycle racers in her time. Her desire to live a less ordinary life drew her at an early age to adventure, travel, and motorcycle racing. She worked several years for Motorcycle Magazine mo in Germany and forged a successful U.S. business career in the Logistics sector that took her to various places in the world including Mexico, Switzerland, and Africa. Eventually career burnout was the trigger to re-think her life. Today, she makes her home in San Francisco, California and plans an expedition to cross California on an electric bike – a feat that’s never been attempted or accomplished by a female.
