Francis Gurry Appointed for Second Term as WIPO Director General

The member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) appointed Francis Gurry by acclamation on May 8, 2014, to a second six-year term of office as Director General of the Organization.

Mr. Gurry’s appointment by the 187-member state General Assembly, WIPO’s highest governing body, follows his nomination by the WIPO Coordination Committee in March.

The second term of Mr. Gurry, an Australian national, will run from October 1, 2014, through September 2020.

Mr. Gurry is the fourth Director General of WIPO, following Dr. Kamil Idris of Sudan (1997-2008), Mr. Arpad Bogsch of the United States (1973-1997) and Mr. Georg Bodenhausen of the Netherlands (1970-1973).
